I collaborated with professor, author, and illustrator D.B. Dowd on the award-winning publications Spartan Holiday No. 1, 2, and 3. The inaugural 40-page issue chronicles Dowd’s travels through China. Part history, part memoir, and part travelogue, Spartan Holiday offers a form of reporting rarely found in traditional media. Each visually rich spread is treated as a standalone composition, while collectively weaving a narrative that is personal, provocative, and peculiar.
Issue No. 2 continues Dowd’s journey throughout China, while Issue No. 3 explores the beauty of Paris. With a focus on helping the viewer connect to the narrative, I carefully curated pages and spreads—layering color, texture, and typography—to support the storytelling and invite engagement from multiple vantage points.
